The U.S. Senate Threat to Privacy – Part 2 You already pay a lot for your internet here in the United States, and you don’t get a terribly good value for it. How could the get worse? By your internet service provider spying on you, collecting that data, and selling it to whoever they like. And, its worth mentioning, this puts your data at increased risk of being stolen. Isn’t that great? What can you do about it? Well, we talk some about that this hour. We even talk about a browser that’s been around since the 90’s you might not have heard of and a useful feature for this problem (you can get it at http://www.opera.com )! Did you miss hour one? Net Neutrality, the FCC, and the New Administration The trick with the United States government is, for better and worse, it changes pretty frequently. This can make continuity between administrations a little tricky at best. The past administration was pro-Net Neutrality, for instance. But more than that, they can change during their tenure. FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler really worried some people when he came in as a cable industry insider, and gradually changed to being a pro-consumer advocate. So, what will the next four years look like? And what can we do about things if we don’t like how they’re looking? Jonathan, LD, and Sam talk about that very subject! Ready for hour two? Click here!

AT&T, the FCC, and the New Administration We continue our talk about the change of administration and what this could mean for us. And, frankly, there’s a lot of question marks for a variety of subjects! For instance: we’ve seen Comcast and Time Warner attempt to merge only to call it off. Later, Time Warner and Charter merged. Was this good for consumers? Well, maybe not. But now? AT&T and DirectTV want to merge, and while the deal has been made it hasn’t been done. What do we know about how the upcoming administration feels about this? Will this benefit consumers? We talk about this and more in hour two! If you missed hour one, click here!

Comcast, and the commoditization of YOUR privacy! Have you ever heard the praises of Comcast’s customer service? How they put their customers first, have accurate, on-time billing, and generally look out for our good? No? That’s okay, neither have we. So, rather than buck their trend, Comcast has decided they have a new service they’d like to sell you: Privacy. Pay more or be watched by their advertising! How… yeah… Ready for hour two?
